The 21-year-old is part of a crop of youngsters, mostly brought in by manager Brendan Rodgers from elsewhere. In their game against Manchester United on Sunday, defender Martin Skrtel was the only player in the side over the age of 30. Jordan Henderson, who is being touted for club captain next season, is just 24-years-old.

Can said: “I definitely feel we’re at the start of a new era. It’s a very young team with Philippe Coutinho (22), Jordan Henderson (24) and Lazar Markovic (21). The team needs to keep improving, and continue doing what we’re doing at the moment to get to these years. I believe there are good years ahead.”

With Steven Gerrard leaving the club in the summer, and Luis Suarez leaving before this campaign, it does seem as if a new batch of stars are needed to take the helm. Rodgers will have a big test in the summer transfer window to help his side get over the two big departures in 12 months.
