The Swiss capitalised on the USA’s susceptibility to late goals with an 80th-minute equaliser from Hertha Berlin’s Valentine Stocker.

The States had led since half-time, when Brek Shea opened the scoring. However, they lost striker Jozy Altidore to a red card on 68 minutes and ceded the initiative to the Europeans.

The two sides met in Zurich with Switzerland—currently 12th in the world—expected to see off Jurgen Klinsmann’s side, who are currently in the middle of a rebuilding process.

Both sides rested players, however, and Moubandje was given his opportunity to impress Switzerland coach Vladimir Petkovic.

The full-back was also eligible for Cameroon, but opted to seek an international future with the Swiss having already represented them at U21 level.

Stade Rennais midfielder and former Manchester City man Gelson Fernandes also started the match, but was replaced by Haris Seferovic on 72 minutes.

FC Nantes midfielder Alejandro Bedoya also started the match, playing 76 minutes for the USA before DeAndre Yedlin came on in his place.
