Emirates Stadium side look to bring in promising young defender.
Arsenal are reportedly leading the race to sign much sought after Charlton Athletic defender Joe Gomez according to the Metro.
The 17 year old, who can play at right-back and in the centre of defence, is also being pursued by Man City though the Gunners are apparently in ‘pole position’.
Arsene Wenger has previously successfully landed Carl Jenkinson from the South London outfit and this may well be aiding his pursuit of Gomez.
The England Under 19 international broke into the Charlton Athletic first team set-up this term and has made 19 appearances in all competitions.
Wenger may well feel a move for Gomez not only offers him a prospect for the future but also helps Arsenal to adhere to ‘homegrown’ quota regulations.
Though Arsenal have a fair defensive options they have at times seen their squad stretched by injury concerns suffered by a number of players.
