The Gunners are seemingly stepping up their interest in the French international before the next transfer window opens, with Arsene Wenger perhaps keen to get some business done early in an attempt to improve his squad.
Although Arsenal look in good form at the moment, they are still lacking in the defensive midfield department after injury-hit campaigns from players like Mikel Arteta and Jack Wilshere, who do not look like convincing long-term options in that part of the pitch.
Sources at ESPN now suggest Arsenal are ready to make a formal bid to Southampton for Schneiderlin, though they have not yet made an official offer, having simply sounded out the Saints over a possible deal.
Still, given the north London giants’ long-standing interest in the 25-year-old, it perhaps seems likely that this is the start of the player’s exit from the St Mary’s Stadium.
