Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has admitted that Chelsea deserved to win the Premier League, reports the Daily Express.
The Stamford Bridge outfit were crowned champions last Sunday after victory over Crystal Palace gave them an unassailable lead at the top of the division. Impressively, the Blues have managed this with three games left to play.
Although the London side now have nothing left to play, for the Red Devils will be hoping they still play to their best. United need them to beat Liverpool on Sunday so that they can extend their lead over the Merseyside club in the race to qualify for the Champions League. It had looked like van Gaal’s side were safe in their top four position until a run of three straight defeats saw their progress stall.
They head into this weekend only four points ahead of Liverpool.
He said: “I have sent him a (congratulatory) text already, but I don’t know if the message has arrived because I know he changes his number a lot. But I want to wish my colleague Jose Mourinho and Chelsea congratulations on a well-deserved championship. When you see the statistics, you cannot doubt that they are the real champion.”
Is this a genuine message of congratulations by the Dutchman, or is he attempting to get his rivals to maintain their high levels of performance against Liverpool?
