Arsenal have reportedly been long-term admirers of the German international, while Paris Saint-Germain have also been named as potential suitors.

According to Die Welt, Schalke have also joined the race for the experienced powerhouse.

Having not completed his expected move away from Real Madrid last summer, Khedira has endured a troubled campaign this time around.

Injuries have affected his progress and his playing time, and the midfielder is not believed to be in the plans of Carlo Ancelotti.

Coming to the end of his contract at PSG, Khedira will emerge on the market as a deluxe free agent this summer.

Schalke would be keen to bring the midfielder back to the Bundesliga. He began his career with VfB Stuttgart, where he made his name, became a Germany international and won the German championship in 2007.

“It’s true that we want to sign Sami Khedira for the coming season,” began Horst Heldt, the sporting director of Schalke, “but we are not the only club who are interested.

“We think they we need a new spirit, we are not satisfied with the current campaign and we are convinced that we need to change something.”

However, can Schalke compete with Khedira’s moneyed rivals and sign the veteran, or will the Premier League trio be able to bring him to the Premier League?
