The Italian midfielder is said to be the man the Reds want to replace departing Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard, and the Merseyside club have opened talks over what could be the most sensational transfer of the upcoming window.

The report comes from the Metro – who claim that Pirlo is at the top of Rodgers’ summer transfer wish-list, and Liverpool are doing all they can to persuade the midfield maestro into a switch to the Premier League.
According to the Daily Mail, the Italy international is poised to leave Turin at the end of the season, and could be available on a free transfer – which would allow the Reds to offer a substantial wage packet.
The 35-year-old was superb in Juve’s first-leg victory over Spanish giants Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-final last week, and his performance has proven his ability to continue to play at the highest level.
