Liverpool are reportedly lining up a move for Southampton defender Jose Fonte this summer, according to the Metro.
The Portuguese defender has been in stunning form for the Saints this season, attracting some serious attention from elsewhere with a string of assured and consistent performances.
Liverpool, by contrast, have had a nightmare defensively this season, and as such manager Brendan Rodgers has targeted the Saints star as a potential reinforcement over the coming weeks.
Manchester United had also been rumoured to be interest, but as they are now focusing on other targets, the Reds are free to move in and make an offer for the 31-year-old.
This news comes just a year after the club signed Dejan Lovren from Southampton for £20m. Though the prospect of signing another Saints star may not be high on a Liverpool fan’s wish list, but Fonte’s arrival could give the Croatian a boost, as he has struggled to recapture his best form this term.
