This is actually £3 million less than the £18 million the Red Devils originally paid Atletico Madrid for the Spain international back in 2011. It is also just half of the £30 million that the United hierarchy are thought to be asking for.

However, despite this there is a chance that the offer could be accepted by the Old Trafford outfit, with Los Blancos able to dictate terms after reports in the Daily Mirror that the 24-year-old has agreed a contract with them. This has even put in doubt United’s ability to use the ‘keeper as a makeweight in any deal for Gareth Bale, with the La Liga giants refusing to budge on their valuation.

Were such a move to go through the Red Devils may not need to be too worried. Manager Louis van Gaal brought Victor Valdes to the club back in January, and the former Barcelona man could be a ready made replacement for De Gea.
