Back in April the former Gunner had claimed that Giroud wasn’t good enough to help the team on to a title challenge. He believes that boss Arsene Wenger needs a better spine in his side to improve on the regular qualification for the Champions League that they currently manage.

This seems to have angered the current player for the North London club, and he has replied in kind. The 28-year-old described the comments as ‘dull’, but admits they have still hit their mark. Could they now spur him on to improve his play?

The former Montpellier star said: “I heard he was saying too many dull things. That was a bomb and it had its desired effect.”

The France international has 17 goals in 32 appearances for Arsenal this season, not a bad return for the striker. However, he has underperformed in several key fixtures, including the 1-3 defeat to AS Monaco that led to the Gunners crashing out of the Europe.
