Despite being a key part of the Catalan club’s La Liga winning side during this campaign, the 32-year-old will not extend his deal – despite the team chasing a potential treble in the upcoming Copa del Rey and Champions League finals. The Brazilian has played 44 times in this so far successful season, and continues to rank amongst the world’s best players in his position.

However, while this is awful news for Barca with their current ban on registering new players, it could be a bonus for the Red Devils. They have been linked to the right-back over the past nine months due to manager Louis van Gaal having to rely on natural winger Antonio Valencia in the role.

Although United would save on a transfer fee, they could still have to pay the defender £150,000 a week to tempt him to the Premier League.
