Manchester United star Angel Di Maria is a target for Bayern Munich after it was revealed that Franck Ribery would be sidelined for longer than expected, reports the Daily Express.
The Bavarian side have been hit by the news that non-surgical treatment of the France international’s ankle injury has been unsuccessful.
As a result they have now had to take another course of action, ‘immobilising’ the joint. It had been expected that the winger would be fit by June 1, but it is now unknown how much longer he will be out for.
As a consequence, the Bundesliga champions could rekindle their interest in the Red Devils’ record signing. Di Maria managed ten assists and four goals last season, but is still seen as a disappointment by some, especially after Ashley Young was prefered for several matches at the back end of the campaign.
However, after signing for what United’s official site states was £59.7 million, it is likely they will want to recoup much of that fee if the Argentina international leaves.
This had put their German counterparts off before, but the injury news could now force their hand. Also, with Ribery now 32-years-old it is likely that they will need to find a replacement in the near future whatever his fitness. At 27-years-old Di Maria could be a younger alternative for a player who is vital to Bayern’s hopes.
