The Frenchman is a wanted man by a host of top European clubs including La Liga giants Barcelona and Real Madrid, however it appears City have made the first move for the highly-rated midfield powerhouse.

According to reports in Italy, last season’s Premier League runners-up have made an opening offer of close to £60m and it remains to be see if the bid is accepted, or if City can win this particular transfer battle against so many other elite European sides.

If a deal can be pulled off then the signing would be a major statement from Manuel Pellergini as he looks to wrestle the title away from Chelsea next season.

Pogba added to a midfield containing the likes of Yaya Toure, Fernandinho and David Silva is likely to make City favourites for the title and would instantly make them a force to be reckoned with in the Champions League.

The offer comes hot on the heels of a reported £25m bid for Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling that was rejected on Thursday night [via Sky Sports], however the Independent have reported that an improved offer is expected to be submitted over the weekend.

Pellegrini seems likely to be busy in the summer window and is expected to strengthen his midfield options after losing Frank Lampard and James Milner on free transfers to MLS outfit New York City and Liverpool respectively.

The article in the Independent highlights the importance of City bringing in home-grown players this summer and this is thought to be the driving force behind the move for Sterling.

In addition former Chelsea midfielder Kevin De Bruyne claimed via SkySports that talks over a potential switch to the Etihad Stadium have begun with City interested in the Belgian international following a terrific season with Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg where he claimed 20 assists in the league [via WhoScored].
