The player’s mother Paqui Garcia claimed that her child wants to stay at the Bernabeu, and she also seemed to reject any talk of a move to Old Trafford. This will be a major blow to the Red Devils, who had been hoping to make him one of their marquee signings this summer.

When asked whether Ramos wanted to stay at the Bernabeu, she answered in the affirmative, but when questioned about United, she refused to acknowledge any talk of a move to Old Trafford.

This revelation also flies in the face of reports that the 29-year-old had asked Los Blancos’ hierarchy for a move to United. The Daily Mirror had claimed that the defender had requested the club open talks with their Premier League counterparts over a move as contract negotiations between the player and Real had stalled.

Apparently the centre-back wants €10 million a year for his next contract, but the Galacticos’ president Florentino Perez is only willing to offer €7.5 million according to Spanish publication MARCA. It had been hoped by United and also local rivals Manchester City [The Guardian] that this meant the player would be available this summer.

Meanwhile the Citizens watched their captain Vincent Kompany endure a terrible campaign last time round, and they still haven’t found a good partner for him when he is in form despite the pricey acquisition of Eliaquim Mangala. Ramos could be the man to help Kompany back to form.
