Reports from the Express last week claimed that the England international had agreed a £100,000-per-week contract with the Citizens and was on the verge of completing an £8m move.

What’s more, BBC Sport reported that Tim Sherwood is expected to sign LOSC Lille’s Idrissa Gueye imminently – suggesting that the English manager could be expecting Delph to leave the club this summer – with Gueye considered his potential replacement.

Former Sky Blues right-back Micah Richards has revealed that the Villa Park midfielder has asked for advice over whether a move to the two-time Premier League champions would be a wise step in his career – given playing time could be limited in Manuel Pellegrini’s side.

“It’s just being given that chance. If he [City manager Manuel Pellegrini] is going to give him the chance to play then it’s hard to turn down the chance of playing Champions League football,” he said, as quoted by ESPN.

“To be fair, he has asked me what I think about the situation. I told him I can’t comment to be honest.

“I don’t want to say go there and then he [Pellegrini] doesn’t play him — he’ll be ringing me up afterwards!”

Nonetheless, despite the 25-year-old’s concerns, Oulala released an infographic detailing Delph’s superior stats to Manchester City’s Fernandinho – with the Villa man outperforming his competitor in successful passes, key passes, chances created and tackles won.

With 24 appearances in central midfielder last season, perhaps the 25-year-old could be considered a replacement to the under-performing Fernandinho at the Etihad.
