Manchester United star Angel Di Maria is set for showdown talks with Louis van Gaal when he meets up with the squad in the USA, reports the Daily Star.

The 27-year-old is joining their pre-season preparations late after being a part of the Argentina side which got to the final of the Copa America. When he arrives the winger will have to sit down with his manager after being heavily linked with a £45 million move to PSG this summer [talkSPORT].

It is unknown whether the player, who joined for a record-breaking £59.7 million [BBC] less than a year ago, would like to leave Old Trafford. However, it has been reported that he is unsettled in England [Daily Telegraph], which may make a transfer more enticing.

“I expect him (to arrive) tomorrow because we have communicated that and they have responded on that,” van Gaal said on Di Maria’s return, “But I am not answering questions about transfers or the process.

“It is not so difficult talking about transfers because I never answer the question – because I cannot. I want to but it is not good for Manchester United, for the players and for me. Every word I speak on players who are in the (transfer) process is one word too much because I have read about a lot of interesting players that this club should buy but not every player is true.

“Di Maria cannot play in the game (against Barcelona) because we have to build him up. When you come out of your holidays you cannot play immediately a game so that is out of the question.”

If the former Real Madrid man does decide to leave, it will leave the Red Devils needing to buy a replacement. With heightened expectations in the Premier League coupled with the added challenge of the Champions League United will want to have as strong a squad as they can for the new campaign.
