Mauricio Pochettino has made West Bromwich Albion striker Saido Berahino his number one transfer target at Tottenham Hotspur.

The Anglo-Burundian forward has long been tipped for a move away from the Hawthorns, and it looks as though his departure from the Black Country may be close. The Daily Mirror have reported that Spurs are plotting a £15 million move for the striker.

In the latest update on the enticing transfer story, ESPN report that the Lilywhites are set to make their first bid for the striker as soon as Emmanuel Adebayor’s departure from North London is confirmed.

The Togo frontman has been lined-up by Aston Villa as a potential replacement for Christian Benteke, who completed a £32.5 million move to Liverpool earlier this week [Mirror].

The ex-Arsenal hitman enjoyed great success under Tim Sherwood during the English coach’s brief but encouraging spell as Spurs coach, and the pair may be set to rekindle their connection at Villa Park [Mirror].

As soon as Adebayor departs, a bid for England U21 striker Berahino is expected.

The Albion hitman managed 14 goals and one assists in 38 Premier League outings last term, and may represent an idea foil for England star Harry Kane.

Certainly, the promise of the pair operating in tandem is particularly appealing, while the 21-year-old would surely ease the scoring burden on the local frontman.

Spurs may yet face competition from Liverpool [via talkSPORT] and Manchester United [via the Metro], with both clubs having been linked to Berahino in the past.
