CONFIRMED Man Utd team news: De Gea SNUBBED by van Gaal for opening Tottenham clash

Posted by

Louis van Gaal, the Manchester United manager, has confirmed that David De Gea will sit out their opening clash of the Premier League season against Tottenham Hotspur, suggesting that Sergio Romero is set to start at Old Trafford.

The Spaniard has been heavily linked with Real Madrid throughout the summer window, and speculation remains worryingly ongoing with the new campaign just hours away from kick off.

Van Gaal has suggested that his decision to leave De Gea out on Saturday is centred upon his concern that the rumours surrounding his future may consequently affect his performance.

“I think about the human being more than the player and I don’t think he can handle that,” the Dutchman was quoted by BBC Sport.

According to BBC Sport, the Red Devils are still holding out for a deal that sees Sergio Ramos move to Theatre of Dreams in exchange for De Gea – despite reports claiming that the centre-back is closing in on a new deal at the Santiago Bernabeu.

With Victor Valdes and Anders Lindeegard set to leave Manchester this month, there is significant concern that the Red Devils may be left with only new arrival Romero to step up in between the posts.
