Chelsea plot signing of Real Madrid wide-man to replace underperforming star

Blues set sights on big-name Bernabeu raid.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho could make a raid on his old club Real Madrid in the January transfer window, with Daniel Carvajal eyed up as potential replacement for Branislav Ivanovic.

The Spanish international no longer looks guaranteed a starting spot in the Spanish capital this term, with new signing Danilo now ahead of him in the pecking order, according to Tutto Mercato Web.

Carvajal has been a big player for Real in recent times, however, and is certainly a good enough player to fix Chelsea’s issues at right-back this season, with Ivanovic looking past his best.

Cesar Azpilicueta has also filled in on the right this year, but Carvajal arguably looks an upgrade on his fellow Spaniard, who is better suited to playing left-back.
