Arsenal player ratings: Mertesacker vulnerable but Sanchez shines again as Gunners batter Watford

Posted by

Mesut Ozil – 7/10

Always probing and looking for a way to break through the Watford backline, and ultimately he had two important contributions in the build-up to the first two goals of the game to make a big difference.

Alexis Sanchez – 7/10

There were doubts over his fitness after playing twice for Chile in the international break despite a hip concern.

However, he made it 10 goals in his last six games in all competitions for club and country as he continues to establish himself as an integral part of Arsenal’s title push. Always an option for the Gunners going forward and never shied away from taking responsibility for their play in the final third.

Theo Walcott – 6/10

A quiet game for the England international on the whole which will again serve his doubters who criticise his inconsistency. Nevertheless, played his role in the win as his movement and pace stretched the Watford defence and contributed to their downfall.

Substitutes

Olivier Giroud – 7/10

Immediate impact for the Frenchman as he scored within minutes of coming off the bench as he added something different for Wenger’s side with his presence in the box.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – 5/10

Little time to have to an impact on the game, but will hope to get more opportunities in the future.

Mikel Arteta – 5/10

Brought on to add solidity in midfield, went about his business for the short period he spent on the pitch with minimal fuss.
