Manchester United may have been handed a shock boost in the race for Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi after learning that he could be open to quitting the Catalan giants, according to the Metro.
The Argentine international is said to be unsettled at the Nou Camp following a recent high profile tax investigation, and the Daily Telegraph are now reporting that United are just one of the clubs being encouraged to make an ambitious move for his signature.
Messi has spent his entire professional career with Barcelona, where he has played a major role in helping the club lift seven league titles and four Champions Leagues, as well as going on to become the club’s all-time top goalscorer in the process (via Metro).
The Metro believe that Messi could be tempted to complete a surprise move to Old Trafford, but should it go ahead it would mean that Louis van Gaal’s heavy spending has reached a whole new level.
