Big Sam eyeing reunion with old favourite as he plots Sunderland’s January transfer window

According to reports, Sam Allardyce is busy making plans for Sunderland’s January transfer window as he looks to steer the Black Cats away from the relegation zone.

Since taking over at the fallen north-east giants, Big Sam oversaw a terrific victory over local rivals Newcastle United, but has largely failed to revitalise the Stadium of Light outfit so far.

That memorable win has been the only glimmer of hope for Allardyce, as his side have lost their other three matches, scoring two and conceding eight goals.

According to the Daily Star, Allardyce is set to turn to the market in the January transfer window as he looks to revitalise Sunderland’s flagging fortunes.

He has made the defence his top priority and has identified James Collins and Arthur Masuaku as the ideal recruits.

The former was an Allardyce favourite at West Ham United, the manager’s previous club, where Collins still plays.

Full-back Masuaku, by contrast, features for Greek giants Olympiacos and, to date, has no experience of English football.
