Europa League round of 32 draw: Liverpool and Manchester United handed favourable ties

Posted by

The draw for the round of 32 in the Europa League was made on Monday and Manchester United will face Midtjylland as they look to bounce back from the disappointment of dropping out of the Champions League.

Louis van Gaal’s side will be under pressure to perform despite the fact that the Premier League is likely to now become their priority, and they will certainly fancy their chances against the Danish outfit.

Meanwhile, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp faces a return to his homeland after the Reds were drawn against Augsburg. Having progressed from a tricky group which featured the likes of FC Sion and Bordeaux, they will be hopeful of progressing further in the competition at the expense of their German rivals.

In contrast, Tottenham were handed a tough test as they were drawn against high-flying Fiorentina for the second consecutive year in the knockout stages of the competition.

The Viola are currently second in Serie A after making an impressive start to the campaign under Paulo Sousa, and the Portuguese tactician had revealed last week that he would be keen to face an English side given his love for the atmosphere in the Premier league.

His wish was granted as he will now come face-to-face with Mauricio Pochettino, as Spurs look to build on their displays in the group stage and take another step closer to silverware in Europe.
