Thiago Alcantara reveals David de Gea tried to lure him to Man United

Bayern Munich star Thiago Alcantara has said that international teammate David de Gea attempted to convince him to join him at Manchester United, according to the Daily Mirror.

The 24-year-old had been linked with a move to Old Trafford shortly after David Moyes took over at the club in 2013, but ended up following former Barca coach Pep Guardiola to Bayern Munich instead.

But according to the player himself, David de Gea attempted to convince him to join him in the Northwest shortly after the European under-21 Championship by writing ‘Nos Vemos en Manchester’ (See you in Manchester), on hit match ball following a hat trick in the final against Italy.

“There was never any firm proposal,” declared Thiago, speaking to the Daily Mail. “David de Gea wanted me to join. He wrote a message on my match ball after we’d beaten Italy in the [European Championship under-21] final.

“But I’d have done the same with him. He is one of the greatest goalkeepers in the world. You always want to play with the best. But it was always going to be Munich.”

And if United fans are hoping that he is still open to joining them, they may be disappointed after he confirmed he is in no rush to leave the Alianz Arena anytime soon.

“All I will say is that it is an amazing league,” he adds. “It is probably the best league in the world but I’m very happy at Bayern and fulfilled with what I am doing.”
