Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal is believed to be desperately trying to sign another young Benfica star as he closes in on a move for Renato Sanches, according to Spanish publication Don Balon.
The Dutchman is already eyeing up several options to help boost his squad during the January transfer window, and has placed the 18-year-old on his list of potential targets.
Sanches established himself in the Lisbon-based side last season and has carried on as a first team regular this time around, and has even featured several times in their Champions League campaign.
Predominantly based in the centre of midfielder, Sanches would likely represent a signing for the future as opposed to someone that could come in and immediately make an impact on the first team.
But Benfica aren’t thought to be keen on selling just yet, and may well put up a good fight to keep hold of him should United come calling in the new year.
