Arsenal on the verge of sealing deal for defensive midfield target

Arsenal are believed to be close to sealing a deal for Egyptian international Mohamed Elneny with Swiss news outlet Aargauer Zeitung claiming that they have agreed a fee with FC Basel for his signature.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is keen to keep the club’s forward momentum running into the new year, but thanks to injuries to both Francis Coquelin and Santi Cazorla, the manager has been forced to make moves in the transfer window.

And reports have claimed that Arsenal have identified Elneny as the ideal man to bring on board and bolster the ranks ahead of a push for both the league title and the Champions League.

Though he has yet to be untested at the highest level, he has helped Basel win three league titles as well as collecting a hatful of international cpas with the Egyptian national side.

And while he may not be the player that Arsenal fans were hoping for, at 23 he is vastly experienced at both club and international level and could prove to be a shrewd signing for the future.
