Aston Villa had been hoping to get something out of the clash with West Ham, and after a fine 45 minute display that saw them threaten the Hammers on more than one occasion, it is the home side that go into the break a goal down.
Following a breakaway on the right flank, the Hammers full-back was given the freedom of Villa Park and duly dispatched his effort with aplomb just seconds before the halftime whistle.
Villa will be wondering where their defence went and Remi Garde will need to find the right words to get his side back into after dominating for long spells.
