Dejan Lovren is considered by many Liverpool fans to be a flop; he is one of the most expensive defenders in team history but has played in only two-thirds of games for the Reds this season. However, the oft-criticized centre-back believes he has convinced fans that he’s not the flop people say he is.
In an interview with Sportske [per the Metro], Lovren explained that fans now view him differently than they did when he first arrived in 2014. He said that fans realize they were wrong to doubt him or hold negative views of him.
‘The fans now have me in a different view,’ Lovren said.
‘I think that they are now starting to realise that I am worthy, and they regret that they initially had a different opinion.’
Lovren started his career with Dinamo Zagreb, eventually moving to Lyon where he earned significant playing time and won the Coupe De France in 2012. He moved to Southampton in 2013 and played a career-high 31 games while scoring two goals.
BBC Sport reported that the Lovren deal cost £20 million. However, this season Lovren has only played 14 out of 20 games.
