Chelsea to follow up Alexandre Pato deal with second South American signing

Chelsea are believed to be closing in on the signature of Argentine international forward Ezequiel Lavezzi, according to respected Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.

Lavezzi is now free to meet and discuss terms with other clubs as his contract at Paris Saint Germain is up at the end of the season, and the report claims that he and his agent held a positive meeting with Blues chiefs this week.

The 29-year-old had been tipped to make the move back to Italy, but Di Marzio is suggesting that a deal to take him to London is now close.

Further negotiations are believed to be planned for the coming days and he could follow Corinthians striker Alexandre Pato to the club, who is believed to have agreed a deal to make his own move to Stamford Bridge.

Lavezzi is being viewed as a possible replacement for Eden Hazard, who could be heading in the opposite direction.
