Chelsea have confirmed that they have signed veteran full-back Branislav Ivanovic to a new one-year contract extension, as reported on their official website.
The 31-year-old had been tipped to move on recently, with the likes of Manchester City and Inter Milan thought to be ready to swoop.
But this new deal means that he will be at the club until the summer of 2017 on a deal rumoured to be worth around £120,000-per-week.
The Serbian international has come in for criticism this season as his performances have been below what is usually expected of him.
But he is happy to have his future resolved and spoke of his delight at penning the extension by saying: “I am very happy to stay with Chelsea for another season. After eight years here, this is my home and there is no other place I would rather play football.
“I have enjoyed so much success since moving to the club and I am determined to help the team achieve more in the last months of this season and next year as well.”
