Van Gaal plotting last-minute January move to bring Tottenham wonderkid to Man United and save his job

Louis van Gaal is understood to be putting plans into action to bring Tottenham Hotspur wonderkid Dele Alli to Manchester United, Caught Offside can reveal.

The Dutch coach looks to be hurtling towards the point of no return at Old Trafford as a miserable season took a turn for the worst as the Red Devils were defeated at home by Southampton on Saturday.

The hosts looked lethargic and devoid of ideas, while it was the visitors who had the better of the chances, with Sadio Mane and Victor Wanyama going close before new boy Charlie Austin secured the win with a late header.

The result has heaped pressure on van Gaal, who is running out of options as he looks to save his skin…and his reputation…at Old Trafford.

Caught Offside‘s sources have revealed that the Dutch coach is plotting a move to sign Spurs wonderkid Alli, a player who he is considering as a potentially reinvigorating addition to United’s flagging squad.

Alli only moved to the Premier League from Milton Keynes Dons at the beginning of the season, but has adapted immediately to life in the top flight, earning an England debut in the process.

He made headlines on Saturday when he struck a goal-of-the-season contender to help Spurs on their way to a 3-1 victory at Crystal Palace.

Alli’s invention and daring came in sharp contrast to United’s directionless malaise, and it’s easy to understand by van Gaal is viewing the youngster as a possible quick-fix solution to his side’s woes.
