Newcastle to drop interest in Chelsea, Tottenham targets & turn to £7m hitman

Newcastle United are understood to have turned their attentions to Swansea City striker Bafetimbi Gomis.

The Magpies have invested heavily so far this transfer window, adding the likes of Jonjo Shelvey, Henri Saivet and Andros Townsend to their struggling squad.

However, Steve McClaren remains keen to add another striker to his squad, with the likes of Ayoze Perez, Aleksandar Mitrovic and Papiss Cisse all yet to truly convince as leading men for the relegation battlers.

The north-east giants have made bids for the likes of Olympique Lyonnais forward Alexandre Lacazette, West Bromwich Albion attacker Saido Berahino and Chelsea forward Loic Remy, but with all three potential moves being derailed by various complications, not least because Chelsea and Tottenham have been eyeing Lacazette, Berahino and Remy [Spurs], the Magpies are keen to turn their attentions to Gomis.

The Magpies are keen to tempt the Swans to offload their frontman for £7 million, according to the Telegraph.

The France international has managed five goals in 21 outings for the Swans so far this season, but the Welsh side are understood to be eyeing a move for Crystal Palace forward Dwight Gayle, whose arrival could threaten Gomis’s gametime.
