Tottenham locked in battle with Atletico Madrid over £24m starlet Youri Tielemans

Tottenham are facing the prospect of losing out on signing Anderlecht whizz kid Youri Tielemans as Spanish giants Atletico Madrid have now raced into pole position to land his signature, according to The Sun.

The report claims that Spurs had been tracking the highly-rated teenager all season with the view of lodging a £15million bid to snap him over the summer.

Tottenham had already registered their interest in the player with the Belgian club, but no seem to have been stumped by Atletico, who have raced into negotiations to beat Tottenham to the punch.

Anderlecht are hoping to sell him for £24million, and Atletico have expressed a willingness to match that valuation, while Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is wary about entering a bidding war.

Spurs got a close look at the 18-year-old during their two Europa League ties earlier this season and manager Mauricio Pochettino believes he would fit in well to the young squad he’s developing at White Hart Lane.
