Watford doubled their advantage at the Emirates on Sunday as Adlene Guedioura’s strike sent Arsenal to the brink of crashing out of the FA Cup.
Odion Ighalo had given the visitors the lead just minutes into the second half, as they capitalised on Arsenal’s lack of decisiveness in the final third and made their most of their opportunity.
Having stunned the Emirates into silence already, Guedioura unleashed an unstoppable shot that left David Ospina with no chance as the Hornets look set for a place in the semi-finals of the FA Cup.
Troy Deeney deserved plenty of credit for his hold up play in the build up to the goal, but few would have predicted Guedioura’s finish as he hammered home from distance to spark wild scenes in the away end.
The pressure is certainly on the Gunners, as they have already faltered in their pursuit of the Premier League title which has seen them fall eight points behind leaders Leicester City.
Coupled with their two-goal deficit against Barcelona in the Champions League, a third successive FA Cup triumph appeared to be their best shot at silverware this season.
However, it doesn’t look as though that will be the case any longer, with the visitors leading by two goals heading into the closing stages of the encounter.
