Gareth Bale explains how Real Madrid will approach Man City clash ahead of UCL semi

Posted by

Gareth Bale has admitted that Real Madrid will be looking to assert themselves against Manchester City in the first leg, despite the Citizens’ home advantage.

Knowing the ominous test that awaits them in the second leg at the Bernabeu, the Citizens will surely look to control the first leg and take the game to their opponents, and one would naturally expect the home side to enjoy the majority of possession in such a high-profile fixture between such evenly matched sides.

However, speaking to the media ahead of Tuesday’s semi—quotes via Goal—Bale has insisted that Real will themselves be looking to go for goal and take the game to the Sky Blues.

“We want to stamp our authority [on the match] and win by as many goals as possible,” Bale began. “It’s going to be difficult,” he continued. “First legs are always a bit tense and a bit cagey.

“It’ll be great to score goals, but all we’re going to do is give our best,” the Welshman concluded. “Hopefully, that will be enough.”

Despite Bale’s bold comments, Real were found wanting during the first leg of their quarter-finals—again away—when they made the trip to the Volkswagen Arena but were found wanting as the Wolves scored twice in the opening 25 minutes.

While Los Blancos fought their way back into the tie with a 3-0 victory in the second leg—as Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat-trick—Zinedine Zidane’s side may well find it much harder to overturn a damaging first-leg deficit.
