Exclusive: No West Ham move for former Man United star set for stay in France

Lyon full-back Rafael da Silva has been closely linked with a return to the Premier League over recent months but his agent Cassiano Pereira has revealed he will stay in France next season.

Speaking to Emre Sarigul, the agent said: “Rafael is happy at Lyon and will stay at the club next season.”

The Express  and L’equipe reported in May that West Ham were interested in the Brazilian international full-back, formerly of Manchester United.

West Ham struggled at right-back last season and were forced to use Michail Antonio – a winger – on the right side of defence.

The East London based outfit have made strengthening at right-back a priority but it seems that Rafael will not be returning to England any time soon.

The 24-year-old full-back joined Lyon from Man United for £2.5 million last summer after spending seven years at Old Trafford.

Rafael scored once and provided two assists in 27 appearances for Lyon in all competitions last season and still has another three-years remaining on his current contract.
