For years, Jose Mourinho was an enemy in the eyes of Manchester United supporters.
The two-time Chelsea boss was not only the scourge of United fans during his time at Stamford Bridge, he also famously upset Old Trafford residents with his antics during Porto’s shock win over the Red Devils in 2004.
As a result of this rivalry, United fans became accustomed to abusing Mourinho, singing ‘songs’ such as “f*** off Mourinho”.
However, as he is now one of them, United supporters changed verse this afternoon.
With Mourinho taking charge of his first game as United boss, Red Devils fans attempted to charm their new manager with a few choruses of “Jose, give us a wave”.
But no wave was forthcoming from the Special One during a goalless first half at the DW Stadium.
So, United’s traveling army reverted to an old classic, albeit one of the more polite anti-Jose chants – “Sit down Mourinho”.
