Mesut Ozil sets sights on Arsenal number: ‘I definitely want’ Jack Wilshere’s number 10 jersey

Arsenal’s star playmaker Mesut Ozil has stated that he wants Jack Wilshere’s number ten shirt after the England international left the club on transfer deadline day.

Wilshere made a surprise move to Bournemouth on a season-long loan and has therefore vacated his number then jersey at Arsenal.

Ozil was recently given the number ten jersey for the Germany national team and now has his eyes set on the same number for Arsenal. The 27-year-old currently wears the number eight kit.

The former Real Madrid also spoke about the importance of the number ten jersey and why he wants to wear it.

“For me, the number means a lot,” Ozil told Express (via Goal).

“It is my favorite number. Football legends such as Zinedine Zidane, Diego Maradona and Pele have this number. I’m really happy about it.

“I wanted to have the number a few years ago, but so did Lukas Podolski and he had played more matches than me. Now I have access!

“Of course, I’ve previously given those in charge a signal. The number is right for me and my position as playmaker.”

When asked if he is going to similar with Wilshere’s shirt number, Ozil replied: “Yes, it has become free and I definitely want it.”

Ozil played the full 90 minutes during Germany’s 3-0 victory over Norway earlier this evening. Joachim Low’s side got off to a winning start following goals from Thomas Muller and Kimmich.

Arsenal take on Southampton in the Premier League this weekend and Ozil is expected to start for the Gunners.
