Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney labelled criticism from outside the club as “rubbish” this week, but it hasn’t sat well with certain supporters.
The 30-year-old has come under fire for his performances for United so far this season, as he has struggled to play a influential role as the No.10 behind Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Rooney has been seen drifting deeper and out to the wing on occasion as well, and he has been singled out as a problematic part of Jose Mourinho’s side in recent months.
Having dismissed a lot of the criticism as “rubbish” in an interview with MUTV, it probably wasn’t the smartest thing to say as evidently he’s been playing well below the level that he has proven he is capable of playing at for a number of years.
Had Rooney admitted that he was performing badly and would strive to work hard and improve, the latter of which he said he would do anyway, then perhaps the reaction would have been kinder.
Instead, he’s left himself open for more criticism, and unless his displays improve significantly and soon, then he can expect more of the same in the coming weeks.
Wayne Rooney says he is “ignoring the rubbish” after criticism so far this season.
Can’t imagine how difficult it is to avoid reflections.
