Arsenal and Tottenham prepare for transfer battle to land La Liga star

Arsenal and Tottenham are reportedly set to lock horns in the transfer market as both clubs are keen on Real Madrid star Isco, if the La Liga giants decide to sell.

The 24-year-old has been limited to just five fleeting appearances so far this season, and combined with issues over competition for places from last season, he has struggled to establish himself in the starting line-up.

With his current contract running until 2018, a decision over his future might have to be taken sooner rather than later, whether that involves a transfer soon to avoid losing him for a lesser fee further down the line or an extension.

According to Diario Madridista, the Spanish international could favour a return to former club Malaga in order to rediscover his best form, but there is also reported interest from both Arsenal and Spurs too.

Having arrived at the Bernabeu in 2013, Isco hasn’t always been a regular fixture in the side under Carlo Ancelotti, Rafa Benitez or Zinedine Zidane.

Nevertheless, he has always played an important role in the club’s success, but coupled with an ankle injury  he suffered at the start of the season, he hasn’t featured anywhere near as regularly as he would have liked in the past few months.

As a result, if he is forced to consider his options in search of first-team football, then moves to Arsenal or Spurs would be particularly appealing, allowing him to move to England while they would likely be able to offer Champions League football.

Manchester City are also mentioned in the Diario Madridista report with Pep Guardiola holding an interest in his compatriot if he decides to leave the Spanish capital, and although his future is uncertain at this point, it’s suggested that he won’t be short of options if he does decide to move on.
