Leicester defender who created more chances than Raheem Sterling last season signs new three-year deal

Leicester City defender Christian Fuchs has signed a new three-year deal with the club.

Fuchs played a key role in his side’s title triumph last campaign and spoke of his joy to sign a new deal: “I’m happy here and I’ve had the best time of my career here.”

When he signed for Leicester in the summer of 2015, he would never have dreamed that he would be a Premier League champion less than a year later. Both dependable at the back and threatening going forward, Fuchs emerged as one of the best full-backs in the country last season.

He was so effective in attack for the Foxes last term that his stats measured up to some of the league’s most acclaimed attackers. For example, Christian Fuchs created 45 chances last season whereas Raheem Sterling only created 35.

Sterling has already provided two assists so far this season, though, which is the same amount that he did in the entirety of last campaign. His rejuvenation has helped City to the top of the table and his side are favourites to take Leicester’s Premier League crown.

Leicester, meanwhile, sit in 13th place with just eight points in their opening eight games. Both they and Fuchs will be hoping to improve on their early-season performances in the next few weeks.
