Arsenal set for transfer battle with Chelsea over highly-rated teenage defensive ace

Arsenal are reportedly monitoring the progress of Marseille central defender Boubacar Kamara, but face potential competition from Chelsea.

Having come through the club’s academy, the 17-year-old is highly rated by the Ligue 1 outfit but has yet to sign a professional contract with the club.

In turn, as reported by L’Equipe, Arsenal are keeping a close eye on the situation and will make their move if negotiations don’t go according to plan for Marseille.

Further, it’s added in the report that Chelsea have previously been linked with a move for the talented youngster, and it’s likely that they’ll also be monitoring Kamara’s future.

While he is of course one for the future, it’s interesting that top Premier League clubs have already been alerted to his talents and will hope to take him to England sooner rather than later.

Both Arsenal and Chelsea have experienced and solid options in defence currently, but with the likes of John Terry and Gary Cahill not getting any younger and with a lack of depth in that area of the Gunners squad, there is an argument that both clubs would be well advised to bolster their squad.

Kamara could be the long-term answer that they’re looking for, but Marseille will be desperate to keep hold of him at this stage of his career and will be hopeful that contract talks are positive and that a deal is agreed between the two parties.
