Manchester City could be stuck with £32M centre-back flop as loan side opt against using their option to sign him

Manchester City’s leaking defence has been a real issue in recent weeks. Pep Guardiola has struggled to find the right formula at the back to complement his side’s plethora of attacking talent.

His defensive woes could be about to take a turn for the worse, as The Sun report that £32 million flop Eliaquim Mangala is set to return to the club next summer. The tabloid report that Valencia, where Mangala is spending the 2016/17 campaign on loan, are not interested in signing the Frenchman on a permanent basis.

The Sun claim that Valencia’s management have not been convinced by Mangala and thus will not take up their £15 million option to sign him.

They quote an ‘Etihad Source’ who reveals: “It’s hard to imagine he has a future at the club, even if Valencia don’t want him, he will still probably leave.”

Mangala’s unforgiving demise is what leaves his career in the position he is in today. Since joining Manchester City he has never been able to replicate his performances for Porto that justified, what The Sun claim was, a £32 million fee.
