Chelsea and Manchester City hit with fines for Etihad bust-up but the Blues escape a points dedection

Chelsea and Manchester City have been hit with fines for a bust-up during their clash at the Etihad earlier this month that saw Sergio Aguero and Fernandinho both given straight red cards.

Aguero was shown red for a horror challenge on David Luiz. The Argentine flew into Luiz’s upper leg with his studs showing. It was reckless, and it caused quite a kick-off.

Chelsea players ran over to express their anger at Aguero, with Nathaniel Chalobah shoving the City striker to the floor. Cesc Fabregas also got involved, and Fernandinho was not best pleased. Fernandinho grabbed Fabregas by the throat and pushed him over the advertising hoardings. He was subsequently sent off too.

The BBC report that Man City have been issued with a £35k fine for their involvement in the fracas. Chelsea have, however, been further penalised with a £100k fine as they are repeat offenders. Antonio Conte’s side will avoid any more punishment, though, after suggestions that the FA might hit them with a points deduction.
