(Video) Coutinho back with a bang with stunning Liverpool response to silence Everton

A lot has been made of Philippe Coutinho’s form since he returned from injury in January, but the Liverpool playmaker silenced his critics against Everton.

The Brazilian international has managed just one goal since mid-January, but it appears as though the international break served him well as he got into some dangerous positions early on in the Merseyside derby at Anfield on Saturday.

Eventually, he made Everton pay. Although there was an element of poor defending in letting him get in so easily, you can’t take anything away from the finish as it was simply superb.

Coutinho now has seven Premier League goals for the season, and his latest couldn’t have come at a better time after Matthew Pennington had drawn Everton level just minutes earlier on his debut in the Merseyside derby.

Poor Liverpool defending eventually allowed him to tap in from close range, and Jurgen Klopp will be far from impressed with his side’s inability to deal with the near-post corner after Sadio Mane had earlier given the hosts the lead.
