Pep Guardiola lines up La Liga raid to address key Man City problem

Given Man City’s form so far this season, it seems strange that there’s reports that Pep Guardiola could look at reinforcements in the January transfer window.

After seeing off Huddersfield Town on Sunday, City have now won 12 of their 13 Premier League games so far this year, while they’ve also comfortably made it through their Champions League group.

In turn, it would appear as though Guardiola has got all the quality and depth he needs, but ultimately the injury suffered by Benjamin Mendy has left him with a hole to fill for the rest of this season.

Coupled with John Stones also suffering an injury setback, adding depth to the backline seemingly could be a priority, with The Sun suggesting that Man City will move for Real Sociedad defender Inigo Martinez again in January after failing to sign him this past summer.

The 26-year-old has made eight appearances in all competitions so far this season, with City scouts said to have continued to keep a close eye on him with a view of making a fresh move in the upcoming transfer window.

It certainly seems as though Man City could do with strengthening their defence though, as ultimately while Mendy will be out for some time yet, Vincent Kompany’s injury history leaves them at risk of being left very short of options in Stones’ absence too.

As a result, it’s a sensible move if true, as the last thing Man City or Guardiola need is for an injury crisis at the back to derail their aspirations of winning major trophies this season.
