Every Jose Mourinho signing for Man United ranked and rated – have Paul Pogba and Alexis Sanchez really been worth the investment?

Romelu Lukaku

26 goals in 39 games for United looks on the face of it like a decent first season, but from watching Romelu Lukaku play it’s easy to see why he hasn’t won over everyone at Old Trafford.

The Belgium international is another expensive purchase, coming at £75million, according to BBC Sport, and for that you’d expect him to be closer to Harry Kane in the running for the Golden Boot. Even £34m winger Mohamed Salah has out-scored him this season.

Romelu Lukaku has blown hot and cold for Manchester United

Lukaku also went on a long goal drought and has largely disappeared in the big games, so while it’s a decent start, it’s not exactly ‘good’ just yet.

Paul Pogba

A player who divides opinion, but it’s certainly not been what we’d hoped it would be from Paul Pogba in his massively hyped-up second spell at Manchester United.

The France international became the most expensive footballer in the world when rejoining the Red Devils last season, and so far it’s only really been flashes of brilliance from him.

Pogba is a huge talent with plenty to offer and it’s fair to say Mourinho probably hasn’t played him in his best role often enough, though that does not excuse his lack of impact, especially in the second half of this season.

Manchester United will have expected more from Paul Pogba

Nemanja Matic

A fine signing from Mourinho’s old club Chelsea, Nemanja Matic certainly ‘gets’ Mourinho’s football and is his assistant manager on the pitch.

The Serbian has his limitations and is perhaps a little too old to be considered a long-term option, but he’s won over plenty of fans in his first season at Old Trafford.

Plus that stoppage time stunner against Crystal Palace was absolutely legendary – if only he did it more!
