The Three Lions have made it to the last four of this tournament for the first time in 28 years and much credit has to go to Southgate for putting together such a spirited side.

So often associated with under-achievement and poor attitude, this England squad looks happy and focused, and Southgate’s celebration with the fans here sums him up.

The former England defender wasn’t the biggest name as a player, best known perhaps for his famous penalty miss at Euro ’96.

But now he’s the man on everyone’s lips as England await either Russia or Croatia as they try to make their first World Cup final since their historic win in 1966.
