Champions League giants submit world-record bid to seal transfer of Barcelona star

Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly submitted a world-record transfer bid for Barcelona playmaker Philippe Coutinho to the player’s representatives.

In an astonishing claim from Mundo Deportivo, the French giants have offered £238million for Coutinho, but have not yet directly approached Barca about signing the player.

Coutinho only just joined Barcelona from Liverpool in January and has settled well, so leaving so soon does seem quite unlikely.

Mundo Deportivo also suggest his club will reject this offer and hold out for his full £353m release clause, which would smash the world transfer record by an even greater amount.

If this incredible deal could go through it would certainly be reminiscent of PSG stunning the world by poaching Barcelona for Neymar last summer in what BBC Sport has as the current world-record transfer deal at £200m.

Coutinho would be another superb signing, having shone as one of the best attacking players in the world in recent times, but for now it looks like this latest ambitious deal from the Ligue 1 big-spenders looks slightly out of reach.
