‘The Bury Beckham’ – England fans compare Trippier’s free-kick to England legend

Kieran Trippier has been one of England stars in the World Cup 2018 and he showed this against Croatia by scoring a magnificent free-kick which had fans comparing him to England legend David Beckham.

England have been in fine fiddle from set-pieces this tournament and have scored nine goals from set plays at the 2018 World Cup, according to Opta, which is the most by any team in a single World Cup tournament since 1966 when England won.

Trippier has been a brilliant outlet down England’s right-hand side and has shone in the wing-back role with his crossing and ability to provide accurate balls from set-plays.

However, he demonstrated against Croatia his ability to summon his inner Beckham, by producing a sublime finish with curl and dip to leave Croatia goalkeeper Danijel Subasic stranded.

Kieran Trippier is now the second England player to score a direct free-kick goal at a World Cup (since 1966).

It will come as no surprise that David Beckham is the other who scored one in both 1998 and 2006.

And England fans couldn’t help but draw comparisons with the east London native with former captain Beckham.

Here’s what they’ve been saying about Trippier’s free-kick.
